Meet Garry Hrechkosy

I’m Garry Hrechkosy, a Certified Public Accountant, finance executive, and lifelong Salt Lake County resident running for Salt Lake County Council at-large. Born and raised in Sandy, Utah, my Utah roots run deep. I earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from the University of Utah and have built my career at the intersection of finance, operations, and public service, with a focus on accountability, smart planning, and delivering real results.

I began my career in public accounting at PricewaterhouseCoopers before moving into corporate finance, where I currently serve as Vice President of Accounting and Controller for MX Technologies. I also serve as Treasurer on the Board of the Fathers and Families Coalition of Utah. My professional background gives me a practical, results-driven approach to budgeting, transparency, and long-term financial stewardship.

In 2022, I was appointed to the Murray City Council, where I focused on responsible growth, water conservation, and fiscal responsibility. I previously ran for Salt Lake County Auditor in 2018 on a platform of transparency and accountability in county government.

My wife, Jill, and I are raising our four children in Murray, including a new baby boy. Despite a very busy family and professional life, I am stepping into this race because I believe my experience and skill set are needed on the County Council. Salt Lake County is at a pivotal moment, and I’m running to bring collaborative, fiscally responsible leadership to county government and deliver real results for every city and neighborhood.
